Capturing player metrics (measurable data such as rep counts, shot or pitch accuracy, etc.) with PowerPlayer is simple. Standardized drills and exercises are easy to set up and execute for players of all ages, and PowerPlayer data collection tools are intuitive. Because the system is designed to be accessible and not reliant on costly digital timing gear, it is, of course, subject to certain variables. For example, slight variations in measurements and timing accuracy are factored in to the design of the system. Naturally, the more data collected on individual players, the better, because a large sample size generates a more accurate picture and provides more numerous trend points to help track development.
When it comes to assessing and coaching athletes, personal opinions are part of the game. PowerPlayer collects ratings (subjective opinion data such as coachability and compete level) and incorporates them into each player’s overall scores. We recommend that PowerPlayer data be input by two or more coaches, as a variety of input sources not only reduces the time commitment involved in player assessment but also creates a larger and more credible body of data for the athletes. And for both metrics and ratings, PowerPlayer detects and mitigates outliers—variations in data patterns that are at odds with trends—that might indicate input mistakes or strong bias.
Athletes who can actually see the things their coaches are trying to help them with are much more likely to accept and act on advice. PowerPlayer enables coaches to capture and upload video, and provide comments to help players (and parents) better understand their teaching points. And over time, the video saved in each player’s PowerPlayer account serves as a visual reminder of how much they’ve improved.
Our users love collecting and providing data to their players and parents. In fact, some of them love it so much that they asked us to allow them to create their own categories to help them track organization-specific dimensions. So we did.
PowerPlayer data can only be input by authorized coaches who have been granted read / write permission to do so by both their organization and by the athletes (or their parents / guardians) they are responsible for developing. Because athletes and / or parents cannot input data about themselves (other than basic personal information), a player’s aggregated data set consists of information gathered from multiple third-party sources.
For younger athletes, certain aspects of PowerPlayer’s dimension set may not be as important as fundamentals. Conversely for older players, dimensions related to actual game play will likely take on more prominence, and the frequency of use for these dimensions may be much higher.
The PowerPlayer system enables coaches to simply choose and use whichever dimensions and frequency levels make sense to them.
“PowerPlayer Baseball is a no-brainer. Constant feedback through the season is much more beneficial for players who want to improve, and the flow of information is perfect for parents who want to be kept up to speed.”
